What Type of Lift Is the Hoyer Elevate?

The Elevate is an active sit-to-stand lift.

Unlike a passive full-body patient lift, the Elevate is designed for patients who can participate in the standing process and have an appropriate degree of weight-bearing ability.

The powered lifting system assists the patient from a seated position toward standing while a specialized stand-aid sling, kneepad, and foot tray provide support.

440 lb Safe Working Load

The Hoyer Elevate has a safe working load of 440 lb / 200 kg.

This gives it greater lifting capacity than the Hoyer Journey, which has a safe working load of 341 lb / 155 kg.

Never exceed the safe working load of the lift, sling, scale, or any other component used during the transfer.

Who Is the Hoyer Elevate Designed For?

The Elevate may be appropriate for patients who:

  • Can bear some weight through the legs
  • Can participate in standing
  • Have sufficient trunk control for the selected sling
  • Can follow transfer instructions
  • Need powered assistance moving from sitting toward standing
  • Need assistance with appropriate chair, wheelchair, bedside, or toileting transfers

When Is an Active Lift Not Appropriate?

The Elevate is not a passive full-body patient lift.

If the patient cannot safely bear weight or participate in standing, a passive Hoyer lift such as the Hoyer Advance-E 340 or Hoyer Presence Pro 500 may be the more appropriate equipment category.

Powered Lifting

The Elevate uses an electric actuator to assist the patient through the sit-to-stand movement.

The caregiver operates the lift using the hand control while the patient is supported by the appropriate stand-aid sling, kneepad, and foot tray.

The powered system provides controlled raising and lowering without requiring the caregiver to manually lift the patient's body weight.

Choosing an Elevate Sling

The Hoyer Journey and Elevate are both powered active lifts, but they prioritize different features.

The Journey has a 341 lb safe working load and emphasizes compact size, folding storage, and portability.

The Elevate increases safe working load to 440 lb and adds powered base adjustment, a larger professional platform, and an optional integrated scale.

Elevate vs Hoyer Up

The Hoyer Up is a non-powered active transfer device.

The Up relies much more heavily on the patient's ability to actively pull to stand.

The Elevate provides powered lifting assistance and is therefore a fundamentally different type of active transfer device.

Elevate vs Passive Hoyer Lift

The most important distinction is not capacity or dimensions. It is whether the patient is appropriate for an active sit-to-stand transfer.

The Elevate is designed for patient participation.

A passive lift supports the patient's full body weight in a full-body sling and is used when active standing participation is not appropriate.

Is the Hoyer Elevate a Floor Lift?

No. The Elevate is an active sit-to-stand lift designed around seated-to-standing transfers.

Does the Elevate Fold?
