Hoyer HPL402 Electric Patient Lift

The Hoyer HPL402 has a safe working load of 400 lbs. It is an electric floor lift designed primarily for home care and lighter professional use.

It is often described as the powered version of Hoyer’s popular homecare hydraulic lift (HML400). The 400 lb capacity covers a large percentage of typical home-care patients while keeping the lift relatively manageable in weight and size compared with higher-capacity professional models.

The HPL402 has a manual (hand-operated) adjustable U-base. The caregiver opens and closes the legs using a handle or lever rather than an electric actuator.

The boom (lifting arm) is electrically powered. This combination keeps the lift simpler and more affordable than fully powered-base models such as the Presence or HPL450-EL, while still eliminating the physical effort of pumping a hydraulic handle.

The HPL402 uses a reverse-mounted actuator. By mounting the actuator in the reverse position, the design creates additional clearance around the patient’s knees and lower legs during the lift.

This is a practical comfort and safety feature, especially when transferring patients from chairs or when the patient has limited knee flexion. Many caregivers specifically look for this reverse-actuator design when choosing a mid-range electric lift.

Yes. The HPL402 is capable of floor recoveries. Its lifting range typically runs from approximately 30.5 inches at the lowest boom position to about 78 inches at the highest.

With proper sling application and base positioning, the lift can recover a patient from the floor and transfer them to a bed or chair. As with any floor recovery, correct technique and adequate base stability are essential.

The adjustable U-base closes to approximately 24 inches wide and opens to about 39.5 inches. Base clearance (height of the legs) is roughly 4.9 to 5.25 inches, which allows the lift to slide under many beds and chairs.

These dimensions make the HPL402 practical for residential environments where doorway width and furniture clearance are often limited.

The HPL402 is powered by a 24V battery system (typically two 12V sealed lead-acid batteries). It includes a hand control for raising and lowering the boom, an emergency stop, and a mechanical emergency down release that allows the patient to be lowered even if power is lost.

Protective leg guards and caster bumpers are also fitted to help reduce damage to walls and furniture during everyday use. Total lift weight is approximately 93 lbs.

The HPL402 comes standard with a 6-point cradle designed for traditional loop-style Hoyer slings (Quickfit, Full Back, Long Seat, etc.).

A digital scale is optional and sold separately. Slings are not included with the lift and must be purchased separately. Customers should always match the sling’s weight rating to the patient’s weight and confirm compatibility with the 6-point cradle.
