Proper battery care, inspection, cleaning, and preventive maintenance help keep the Hoyer HPL450 ready for regular transfers. The HPL450 uses a removable dual-battery system with an off-board charger, allowing one battery to remain in service while the other is charging.

HPL450 Dual-Battery System

The Hoyer HPL450 is supplied with two rechargeable battery packs and an off-board charger. This setup is designed to reduce downtime by allowing one battery to charge while the other is installed on the lift.

The battery pack should fit securely into the mounting bracket and latch firmly into place. Joerns recommends checking the battery mounting and engagement during routine service.

Battery Charging Best Practices

  • Keep one battery charged and available whenever possible.
  • Recharge a battery when the low-battery indicator or alarm appears.
  • Do not continue using the lift when a low-battery warning is active.

A battery pack that does not latch securely or a damaged mounting bracket should be corrected before the lift is returned to service.

Hand Control Inspection

The hand control and its cable should be inspected for visible damage because cable damage can cause intermittent operation.

Test the up and down buttons and confirm that the boom moves in the correct direction.

If the HPL450 is equipped with powered legs, also test the leg-open and leg-close controls and confirm that the base responds correctly.

Emergency Stop Check

Test the red emergency stop button as part of routine inspection.

When the emergency stop is pressed, lift operation should stop. Power is restored by twisting and releasing the emergency stop according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Spreader Bar & Sling Attachment Inspection
