How to Use the Hoyer Journey Sit-to-Stand Lift Safely

The Journey is an active lift. The patient must be able to bear some weight and follow simple instructions. Proper technique maximizes safety and encourages participation.

Preparation Checklist

  • Charge the battery

  • Clear the path

  • Adjust the kneepad to the patient

  • Position the foot tray (or remove it for standing practice)

  • Explain the steps and encourage the patient to pull up on the hand grips

Standard Sit-to-Stand Sequence

  1. Position the Journey so the patient can place their feet on the foot tray (if used) and their knees against the pad.

  2. Lock the brakes.

  3. Have the patient hold the hand grips.

  4. Use the hand control to raise the patient into a standing or near-standing position.

  5. Perform the transfer (toilet, chair, bed edge, etc.).

  6. Lower the patient slowly.

  7. Unlock the brakes and move the lift away.

Restorative Care Tip

Removing the foot tray allows supervised standing and short steps, supporting mobility goals.
